“La Bonne Mère" (The Good Mother)
Original color engraving framed under glass. Nicolas Delaunay (1739-1792) after Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732-1806).

27” x 20.5” x .5”

7 pounds before packing.

Stunning work. Held up well, especially given how old it is. Circa 1779. I love the tenebrism. Beautiful!

JHF: “French painter and printmaker whose late Rococo manner was distinguished by remarkable facility, exuberance and hedonism. One of the most prolific artists active in the last decades of the Ancien Régime, he produced more than 550 paintings (not counting drawings and etchings), of which only 5 are dated. Among his most popular works are genre paintings conveying an atmosphere of intimacy and veiled eroticism.”

ND: “French printmaker, part of a family of printmakers. Trained with Louis-Simon Lempereur.”
